Everyone can Make a Difference

At times, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the inequality and injustice that we witness in our everyday lives. We look around and see the needs of those who are helpless, voiceless and without support and ask ourselves, “what can I do?”, “how could I help?”, “can I really make a difference?”.

The simple answer is YES.

We may not be able to change the world, but the truth is that we all have the ability to be a world changer. That’s because everyone can make a difference.

There is no better evidence of this than the countless stories of generosity we see every year through the Loads of Love Appeal. The appeal brings together the generosity and the resource of people from all traditions, and all areas of our society who collectively help to change the world of thousands of people every year.

The 2017 Loads of Love Appeal has been an exceptional year of generosity so far and we are set to see more food collected this year than ever before. But, as is always the case, it’s not just the large donations that make a difference, it’s the hundreds and hundreds of little ones.

Today we saw this in action, and were blown away by a young lady that used all of her Christmas savings to buy a load of food to contribute to the Loads of Love Appeal. She took all of her money, and with the help of her parents, brought us half a trolley, packed full of love for all the people doing it tough on the Gold Coast this Christmas. She is proof that you don’t need much to make a difference. All it takes is a heart to help, a bit of generosity and the willingness to make it happen.

“Little actions repeated relentlessly result in big change. Don’t underestimate the importance of ‘small’ multiplied by ‘often’.”

Manifesto of a Doer

So, next time you look around and wonder “what can I do?”, just do something and do what you can… often that’s all that needs to be done.
